I’m a freelance writer specializing in science journalism, often for a young audience. Formerly, I was editor of WR Science, a monthly news magazine for kids that was published by Weekly Reader. I also write about horror and videogames.

I’m a rationalist irresistibly drawn to the fantastic. I trust that science offers the best approach for understanding how our world works, but for kicks I turn to tales of the supernatural and the unexplainable.

I studied journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Before that I received a master’s degree in evolutionary biology from the University of Chicago. Originally from Detroit, MI, I currently live in Louisville, KY, with my wife, daughter, and son.
